I haven't seen the need for this. If your AP isn't found by its ESSID,
this command won't help either.

Please post a description of your device (chipset, radio chipset, USB ids;
couldn't find it in the device table) and set the module parm
debug=0x108003 for at76c503.o, retry (e.g. by ifconfig wlan0 down;
ifconfig wlan0 up) and post the syslog (incl. kern.debug messages).
