I have been trying to get this up and just dont know what I am missing. I have done make and make install (no errors, kernel source installed) on redhat 9 with the stock kernel. I can get the smc (I have two other atmel based usb linksys usb11 v2.6 same results) to work flawless in managed mode buy adding ifconfig wlan0 up ; iwconfig wlan0 mode managed ; iwconfig wlan0 essid linksys ; iwconfig wlan0 nick dell1 ; iwconfig wlan0 channel 6 ; ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.135 to my start commands using webmin. I can run it for days without any problems with great range. I am using a linksys wireless router that has the ssid "linksys". I want to run ad-hoc as this box is a server. I can ping the router at 192.168.1.1 with no packet loss but cannot get the linux box online. when I remove the "mode managed" I dont have any connectivy at all. If I do "mode ad-hoc" this to doesnt work. I can plug in a cat 5 and recieve dhcp rite away on boot. I have tried every atmel related trick I can find. Before redhat 9 came out I had no issues setting up. I have reinstalled at least 10 times now, updated kernel or not updated I end up in the same boot, no ad-hoc. Has anyone set up redhat 9 using ad-hoc with success? I would love to know the secret.
