No route to the internet

Hardware:	Client:	Linksys WUSB11 v2.6
			NVidia NForce based mainboard
		Router:	Linksys BEFW11S4 v3


Software:	Fedora Core 2 with latest update kernel
		at76c503a CVS

My stepsister has been trying to install FC2 on her computer.  She has
little prior experience of Linux so I am trying to help her get it going
by phone (she lives a couple of hundred miles away from me).

I have made an updated SRPM for her from the current at76c503a CVS
repository.  Having read the messages on this list she seems to have got
further than most people.  Hotplug successfully installed the driver.
iwlist scan wlan0 found the access point.  After configuring the
interface in ifcfg-wlan0 using static IP address of 192.168.1.55 with
the gw 192.168.1.1.  The interface comes up and the router can be pinged
and the router configuration web interface accessed.

Trouble is there is no routing beyond the router.  The routing table
shows default as 192.168.1.1 so that should be OK.

We've been trying to get this going for well over a week.  Tried many
things including setting GATEWAYDEV=wlan0 in /etc/sysconfig/network.
We've tried both current firmware and as advised by the known bugs page
the previous firmware.  All to no avail.

She's tried enabling debugging in the driver but that hasn't shown
anything interesting.  The logging in the router doesn't show anything
at all - might be useful to send it to her computer but haven't tried
this yet.

Internet works ok in WindowsXP on the same computer.  But from there
strangely she cannot access the router configuration.  I've gone through
the router configuration with her and it all seems OK.  She's even
upgraded the firmware.

Please help.  She would really like to run Linux but this is getting to
the point where I'm afraid she might give up.  She is willing to have a
go at compiling her own kernel if you think that would solve the problem
though she finds the thought of doing that a little daunting.
