Yes.  She's tried pinging various numerical addresses which I can ping
OK from my system, including her ISPs DNS servers.  It seems to me, to
be the default route not going out of the correct interface, except the
only interfaces that should be on-line are lo0 and wlan0 (though the
IPv6 sit0 is also up; could this cause a problem?) configured.  She's
unable to get to her computer at the moment but I am pretty certain that
she when she read out the routing table to me the default route had the
correct gw address and the correct interface ie. wlan0. 

I think it's worth noting that she does have an unused on-board LAN
adaptor which was detected and enabled when she installed Linux.  It has
been configured down ONBOOT though it is still there.  I'm currently
thinking about removing the configuration for that interface - could
that help?

Unfortunately she can't really move her computer to where the router is
located and doesn't have a long Ethernet cable.

Yes, she's done this too.  She's even reset the router to it's defaults
in case that might help and re-configured it from scratch.  It still
works in Windows but won't route from Linux.

This is really frustrating.  I've been using Linux for a _very_ long
time and never had a problem like this before.  I feel I could probably
track it down if I was able to get my hands on the computer myself - but
alas, that is impossible.  I've run out of things to have her try (with
the exception removing the eth0 configuration), so I was hoping there
was some possibility that I would be able to help here.  Something
obvious I may have overlooked or a possible bug in the driver/kernel
etc.
