Your adapter is currently running in ad-hoc mode, is this correct (no
access point to connect to)? If not, use "iwconfig mode managed" to change it.

Please show that you cannot set the channel. Describe your steps and what
iwconfig shows afterwards. IMHO you can set the channel of the IBSS to
be created in ad-hoc mode; only in managed mode the channel is ignored.

BTW, please try to delete some lines in syslog in your next posting. A
short description of your steps would be helpful, something like

"command A"
"syslog from A"
"command B"
"syslog from B"
...
