First off, thanks to the moderator for providing such a valuable venue for wirless networking issues under Linux. Even with my marginal level of linux literacy, I learn a great deal from it. I am still very much on the vertical part of the learning curve. During my recent mandrake 9.1 install I repartitioned my thinkpad 600e 6gb fat32 hdd into a 3gb win 98 dual boot using the mandrake default formatter. I then installed mandrake 9.1 from the iso images. When I installed it with my ma101 rev b plugged in, I got a kernel panic. I restarted the install with it unplugged, and didn't attempt to install a driver from the setup wizard. It now works fine (except no network, of course) I'm trying to get the ma101 running, I've followed the howto at http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/howto/howto.html but found enough idiosyncracies that cause me a bit of trouble. The most obvious problem comes when I attempt to compile the 2.1.2.2 atmelwlan driver (the most recent available file). Here's the log of what happened, I'm sure you can follow it. The suspect replies are prefaced with >> +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ [jeffm@localhost atmelwlandriver]$ su Password: [root@localhost atmelwlandriver]# ls CHANGES COPYING Makefile man/ objs/ patch/ README scripts/ src/ [root@localhost atmelwlandriver]# make config Build all [y/N] : n Set extra module version information [y/N] : n Build Debug version [y/N] : n Build USB Drivers [y/N] : y Build USB 503A RFMD Driver [y/N] : y Build USB RFMD 505 Driver [y/N] : n Build USB RFMD 505 + 2958 Driver [y/N] : y Build PCMCIA Drivers [y/N] : n Build miniPCI Driver [y/N] : n Build applications [y/N] : n >>X Windows include files missing >>Kernel Version Running 2.4.21-0.13mdk >>Found Kernel Source Directory () Finished. I'm wondering if the kernel source is perhaps not installed, I'm also wondering if I should retry a fresh install with the mandrake-supplied atmel driver (but with the device unplugged) and tweak it from there. I throw my ignorance at your mercy. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Jeff Meeks
