netgear ma 101 and debian woody

thanks, Masoud, for your quick answer. i recompiled my kernel (2.4.18) and made it use uhci instead of usb-uhci. but i'm afraid it didn't get me any further. dmesg still complains that the device isn't claimed by any active driver, although there is usbvnetr.o listed as usb-driver, when i load it whit modprobe...strange.

depmod doesnt complain. so there must be something really basic i overlook which has to be configured, i guess. any suggestions, the more basic the better?
