your errors (babble, crc) look like USB transport problems. I'd try (if
possible):
- the other USB hc driver (usb-uhci)
- another USB root hub (if you've got more than one in your box)
- to remove all other USB devices
- an external, self-powered hub
- another USB controller

Don't use USB extension cables.
