I do not know if this aims at the correct direction, but if you use 
SuSE, it should be the easiest way to use YaST for the correct 
configuration.
If you used the most modern drivers (0.11 worked great for me), and the 
compile process finfished without any error messages, you just need to 
configure your network adapter.

Using YaST increases the possibility that your settings are written into 
the correct settings files. To do so, start YaST, choose "Network 
devices" - "Network adapter".
Then, for network type choose "Wireless", "device no" 0, and click onto 
"settings for wireless connections" (or similar - I am using the German 
version, so the English text might differ from this).
Next, select the appropriate settings ("Moderated" if you have a 
wireless access point, your WEP key, etc).

After finishing this procedure you should be able to find your network 
adapter when you type (as root) "iwconfig". You should see it as 
"WLAN0". Maybe you need to re-plug your WLAN adapter for this.
