SMC2662W V.3 Problems

I have attempted to use the above with the GPL drivers
and am having problems. (Please bear with me as I am
new to Linux and don't have a clue what to do.)

Installed on a dual boot machine, Red Hat 8 and Win2k.
Works perfectly under win2k so I know it 
a) functions 
b) the access point works 
c) the MAC address control and keys etc. work, and
d) windows is using a usbvnetr driver.

The Vid an Pid are the same as the SMC2662W V.2
(d5c/a002). The drivers supplied by SMC do not work
with Red Hat 8.

When I compiled the driver the first time I was
missing the include file from the X system (you might
want to add that requirment to your how-to). And when
it tried to install I got a message about unresolved
symbols. But it appeared to install? but did not work.


I then added the X System development packages to my
system and recompiled (e.g. make clean all install)
did I need to do something else?  It seemed to install
OK, but still does not work, I still get the message
about the device has not been claimed by a driver, so
I am confused. 

Also, the device seems to want to use eth0, I read the
how-to instructions but could not figure out how to
fix it, so currently I set the alias of my NIC driver
to eth1 and set the wireless to use eth0. Will this
work? The NIC is not currently connected but may be in
the future. 

The device seems to sense that there is an AP
transmitting (I get a radio signal strength report
when I run iwconfig) but iwconfig never reports the
Key that I input using the Red Hat network dialog. I
also tried using iwconfig to set the Key but that did
not seem to work either. My AP is restricted and has
WEP128 set, Is there something else I need to do to
enable WEP128 besides: 
iwconfig eth0 key xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (that is
26 hex digits 0-9, A-F)?
