Linux does not use mbufs, it uses skbuffs. Yes, a buffer shortage could be caused by various type of incoming traffic. Synfloods are one. Compounding the problem is that post 2.0 kernels are not very good about keeping around available skbuffs, and can take a lot of CPU time to allocate new memory regions for skbuffs. > We are having trouble with a firewall machine that seems to be getting this > plague for 10-20 mins at a time.
