Sorry for the late response.

But, thanks a million! It worked. So far, I haven't seen that problem
and I have used the bandwidth of that laptop a lot now. Thanks man,
you saved a lot of headaches....

RedHat 9 is about to come out. I wonder if I'll have the same problem
with this newer OS...

What driver version are you using?
What is the detection message?
 (In this case the chip version will provide a clue as to what is going on.)

The driver release you are using isn't showing the command status.  That
also means that it won't show other information needed to track down the
problem.
