Thanks Donald.    Hmm.   Actually I did try it with the eth0 "up" before 
that, and it said:

Either shutdown the network, or use the '-f' flag.

Since (I think) I had seen somewhere that it's not a good idea to run the 
diag with -f on an in-use eth0, I decided to choose the first of those 
options and wait till I was about to shut the machine down, with the eth0 
"down".     So I'm a bit confused.   Is there a difference between "active" 
and "up"?     I would play about with it and find out if I could but right 
now I have connections running on it so will have to wait until I shut them 
down again.    Should I then ifconfig eth0 up AND use -f?     Or is this 
something to do with whether the cable is plugged in?      Remember - I know 
almost nothing about eth0.

The *-bug lists now either forward to the regular driver lists or are

Bring the interface 'up' to pull it out of ACPI-D3 low-power mode before
running 'eepro100-diag -f ...'.
