Modems with Gammu

Hello, I am currently using gammu with a phone. Unfortunately, the phone itself cannot receive pictures that are texted to it. Would using a modem instead allow me to receive pictures while still being able to send outbound sms messages? Would I just use the same SIM card that I now have in my phone? Thanks for any help.
