To add on that:

It basically comes down to the fact that you should let know anyone who
gets your binary they can have access to the source, under GPL
conditions. You don't have to give the source with the binaries, but
it's probably the easiest.

For example: my phone comes with modified GPL software bundled. In the
about options, there's a statement that you can request the source
within three years after purchase of the device at the address of the
manufacturer of the phone. Turns out their software is on github too.

If you're planning to change gammu/wammu in a way, think of contributing
back to the project. It's often easier than trying to keep up to date
and rebase/merge the upstream with your code. It's easier for you and
nicer for the community.
