this is not what you reported in your first email and it's easy tp fix
by adding the user to the group that owns /dev/ttyACM0 (the first time
you need to log out and log in again for the change to take effect)

you still didn't provide the debug outpuf of when and where smsd
stopped talking to your modem and without this it's impossible to say
if it's an issue with the program or with the modem
