you are using an old version and by definition all old libgnokii
versions are buggy, compile the version in git for best results (see
www.gnokii.org)

you are using the wrong config, the man page seems clear to me, it's
one of the first paragraphs

the --smsreader command is so specialized that you don't want to use
it, do you really want to user your mail reader to read SMS? Try
--getsms instead

and blame Nokia for removing the functionality that would have made
your attempt to succeed, in fact your config would work with many
phones but not with Nokias built in the last 10 years or so
