libgnokii gets confused by those ^STIN: 1, 0, 0 messages but it should
work fine if you can disable them

if the modem command to disable them isn't permanent, ie you need to
issue it after every ATZ, then you need to use the git version of
gnokii (actually commit 6248e1d564cb1f528fc963301534136f7f190b50
should be enough) and a connect_script to issue the command

see in Docs/sample/ppp/ for examples of connect scripts

since this problem is likely to affect all users if that device, if
you can provide a script I'll be happy to add it

you need to experiment but the script can be as simple as
Docs/sample/ppp/portech-logout
