It is possible it thinks a message is compressed, which it has known to
wrongly do on the rare occasion before, this was fixed in commit
ea2dfe081cc75c58f9528fb0c03ce7a6201c6b81 

Backup your existing gnokii (you should already have backups of configs,
right!) then try 

git clone git://git.savannah.nongnu.org/gnokii.git

build and see if it resolves the problem.
