Reading SD card with error condition

Hi.

I have an OJ 7130, hpoj-0.91, kernel 2.6.6, and am using a 256 MB SD card.
The card has an I/O error on it, most likely a FAT error of some sort.
I have subjected the card to a piece of commercial recovery software that
has verified that it can read the 120 or so images that are on the card
(does this by displaying them; just no way to then save them until one
pays for the non-demo version).  When doing its scan, the recovery
software at first reports that it has encountered an error, and gives
the choice to retry, ignore, or abort.  When I choose "ignore", it then
goes on to do a successful scan of all images on the card.  This behavior
is not unlike what happens when one has a FAT error on any other media,
such as a floppy or even hard drive.  This is all done using the camera
as the reader for the media, and using the USB interface between the
camera and the system.

So at this point, I could pay for the software, but would really rather
not.  Since I have the 7130 with a reader, I would like to use that, and
see if there is a way I can simply get at the various jpeg and avi files
on the card.  The problem I am having is that as soon as I insert the
card, the LED on the reader on the OJ flashes orange and the LCD says
"Error found on card" and won't do any more with the card to make it
accessible through hpoj.

My basic question is, is there any way to cause the OJ/reader/embedded
software/firmware to effectively "ignore" the error condition and proceed
with a normal setup of the media so that it is then available via either
mtools or USB storage?  If no way to force an "ignore", is there a way
to turn off error checking, or in some way place the device in a "dumb"
mode so that it is essentially just a reader device, and relies on the
OS to any checking?

Also, at present I am running the 7130 via parallel port interface
(LIO card on JetDirect port).  This shouldn't have any net effect on this
particular issue.  However, if any part of my future success relies on
the ability to use only USB storage and not the mtools method of
interface via photod, please let me know, as I'll have to start rewiring
things.

But at present, this appears to be a non-issue, since this particular
problem is entirely on-board to the OJ and has nothing to do with
the media reading being stopped by an error condition.
