And affected the ADF?  I tried killing ptal-printd to no avail.

Yes, I was impressed by that page, and that is why I bought the
device.  Didn't help, unless you are suggesting I try gimp-print instead of
hpijs to fix the ADF?  I have tried disabling CUPS entirely.  But
maybe that's not what you're getting at.

Thanks for the other links also.  I looked at all of them, but did not find
anything that looked relevant.
