Hi,
some further experiences with SuSE 9.2, based on the hplip installation
docs on Sourceforge:
- PyQT ist definitely missing in SuSE 9.2. You can use the version from
previous SuSE 9.1
- PyQt from 9.1 (PyQt-3.11-17) shows failed dependencies on 9.2:
error: Failed dependencies:
sip >= 3.10.1 is needed by PyQt-3.11-17
libqscintilla.so.3 is needed by PyQt-3.11-17
libsip.so is needed by PyQt-3.11-17
sip (sip-3.10.1-16.i586.rpm) is also only present on 9.1, but not on 9.2.
Moreover, there is a version conflict between libqscintilla.so.3 (from
9.1) and libqscintilla.so.4 (from 9.2):
libqscintilla.so.4 is required by the kdebindings3-python-3.3.1-3
package. But PyQt-3.11-17 requires the older libqscintilla.so.3 (from
Suse 9.1). So, the only chance is to install PyQT with the --nodeps
option, which is "not very nice" ;-) ...
Nevertheless, compilation and installation for hplip on suse 9.2. works
fine and /usr/hplip/toolbox is useable.
I would recommend that the docs are reworked a bit to reflect the
problems on current suse 9.2. In the long run, there should be an
appropriate RPM package: I believe that the current way to install the
HPLIP is a bit too complicate for normal "desktop users" ....
Bye, Thomas
