hi, my g85 is now running with hplip. main problem was that after an kernel upgrade printing on usb was no longer possible. i then switch from ptal to hplip. but /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp did not find the printer (a g85). the reason was that at usb level the printer was not detected, though i powered the printer on and off, unplugged and replugged it . looking through all the usb and hotplugged settings showed nothing severe except there was no printer found. now - for some reason (one of the usb ports at my box may be malfunctioning, or the fact that i just set up the printer in cups) not quite clear to me - the printer is recognized and the rest of setting it up took some minutes. by the way is the printer.c stuff from ptal still necessary for hplip? thanks and ciao manfred ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: IntelliVIEW -- Interactive Reporting Tool for open source databases.
