Btw, I have a very similar firmware loading failure too. My card worked fine in the morning, then during the day I was on a wired connection, and in the evening when I tried reloading the drivers again (I unload them when not in use) it gave me this same error -5. It worked with no complains for very long time before, in two years that I've used this card I never saw this error. But the firmware is in the correct directories (I even tried putting it in all of the dirs listed in hotplug firmware agent file), sysfs seems to be up and running (it actually have the directories concerning ipw2200 driver too, with all the options visible, except for the firmware forder is empty). Hotplug seems to be working fine for all other purposes (though no other device requires external firmware loading). Any ideas what it could be? Regards, kc Shawn Q.Z.
