Not sure if you are using the same AP. Otherwise see my post earlier.

Another thing related to the problem is the two cards might be in
different SKUs or one is without 802.11a support. Both IPW2200BG and
IPW2915ABG cards use the ipw2200 driver, but the former doesn't have the
A band support. You can verify with your dmesg. For example:

> Detected geography ZZA (11 802.11bg channels, 13 802.11a channels)
