debian etch + hotplug + 2.6.22 Firmware error

dear users,

iam not subscribed to this list, so please put me in cc in further
replies.

currently iam running debian etch with a selfmade 2.6.22 kernel without!
udev and with the good old hotplug. (maybe this is the stombling block).

my ipw2100 card works very well before i changed from 2.6.18 to 2.6.22.

the error i get is:

firmware is present in /lib/firmware as well as in
/usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/
