Dear Dazza; I have a Dell Laptop 9200 with an Intel 2200BG mini-wireless card. Using Ubuntu 7.10 I have configured the wireless. I opened a terminal window and did an iwconfig command. It showed "managed" on first line. I then did a Crtl+F2 to turn off radio hardware. I did an iwconfig command again. It showed "radio off" on the output. Ubuntu does NOT operate the Wi-Fi LED but does turn on/off the radio! I was running Ubuntu the Live CD and have to config the radio every time as I use WPA2 with TKIP-AES. Hope this helps, but try the iwconfig to see if the correct settings are there on the screen. Other than that try running Netstumbler program to see if your wireless is detected.
