--===============7494790320041175960== Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=001517574614a98e1f046556f930 --001517574614a98e1f046556f930 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit It seems that the following problem is caused by the hardware of the desktop I am using. It was reported as bug 679 of IPW2200 driver and Carlos said that the problem seems to be the kernel not initializing the Mini-PCI slot properly. I have no problem with this card on another desktop with the same kernel version. Thanks, -Bo ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Bo Han <[email protected]> Date: Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 2:21 PM Subject: cannot load firmware for IPW2200 To: [email protected] Hi, I am using the following card with kernel version 2.6.28.7 00:13.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 1050 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 18 Memory at dd000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K] Capabilities: [9c] Power Management version 2 Kernel modules: ipw2200 The firmware cannot be loaded successfully and dmesg shows [ 9271.410246] ieee80211_crypt: unregistered algorithm 'NULL' [ 9274.753359] ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL' [ 9274.760572] ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13 [ 9274.760578] ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation < [email protected]> [ 9274.773386] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kmprq [ 9274.773392] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2006 Intel Corporation [ 9274.773603] ipw2200 0000:00:13.0: enabling device (0000 -> 0002) [ 9274.773619] ipw2200 0000:00:13.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18 [ 9274.773789] ipw2200: U ipw_pci_probe pci_resource_len = 0x00001000 [ 9274.773794] ipw2200: U ipw_pci_probe pci_resource_base = e0b3e000 [ 9274.780107] ipw2200: U ipw_sw_reset Hardware crypto [off] [ 9274.780115] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection [ 9274.780226] ipw2200 0000:00:13.0: firmware: requesting ipw2200-bss.fw [ 9274.878726] ipw2200: U ipw_get_fw Read firmware 'ipw2200-bss.fw' image v3.0 (191126 bytes) [ 9274.884808] ipw2200: U ipw_load initial device response after 0ms [ 9274.884815] ipw2200: U ipw_stop_master stop master 0ms [ 9274.900005] ipw2200: U ipw_load_ucode Microcode is not alive [ 9274.900010] ipw2200: Unable to load ucode: -22 [ 9274.900044] ipw2200: Unable to load firmware: -22 [ 9274.900052] ipw2200: failed to register network device [ 9274.904239] ipw2200 0000:00:13.0: PCI INT A disabled [ 9274.904278] ipw2200: probe of 0000:00:13.0 failed with error -5 The values of priv->dino_alive.alive_command & priv->dino_alive.ucode_valid are 149 and 85 respectively, which cause the output "Microcode is not alive".
