 sorry for late response.
 I have been using Madwifi and just started trying to move to ath5k, but 
ath5k
 still show significant throughput issues. therefore I am mainly using 
Madwifi at this
 moment while trying to playing with ath5k.

   We are not so sure about 4ms carrier sense rule and will check it 
here in Japan

  We have been using Madwifi( HAL 0.9.30.13 and HAL 2008-05-20)
  HAL 2008-05-20 is the version containing the Japanese regdomain
 updates and  it interprets the EEPROM settings correctly, giving us 5GHz
 available (W52 and W53 channels).  As far as I know,
 Felix implemented this HAL 2008-05-20. (thank for Felix )

  I am not sure right now, but this this Japanese regdomain
  updates has not been applied yet to the HAL in trunk and this
 is one of the reasons I try to using ath5k.
