Beacons being discarded?

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone out there can help me with a problem I'm facing. I've
written some code to run in the user-space on an OpenWRT wireless access
point with madwifi drivers and and atheros chipset. One of the functions of
this piece of code is to set up a monitoring VAP and listen for beacons,
including beacons sent from the wireless access point it's running on top
of. These beacons however are not seen by the script and because everything
else shows up, as well as the fact that the missing AP beacons appear when
running the exact same script on my laptop one foot away, leads me to
believe that these are being discarded within the router.

So I was wondering if anyone could confirm if this is the expected
performance? If beacons sent from an AP are ignored by it once sent out? And
if so, where about in the drivers is it implemented?

Some more prehaps relevant info:
The managed and monitoring VAP's have different MAC addresses, differing
only in the first octet and they both *are* on the same channel.
"iwlist ath1 scanning" on the monitoring interface does not pick up the SSID
of the AP running on the managed interface.

Any help would be *much* appreciated!
