connecting problem

hello,

     im using the Aopen Conexant modem, ive made he correct configuration 
with pppconfig, it dials, it enters the username and password properly, but 
then, i get this error from pppd:

could not set tty to ppp discipline: invalid argument

please help me, ive bought this modem for 50$ and ill have to pay 15$ more 
for the license, so i would like to have it working as soon as possible.
