Hi

I have a Dell Dimension 9150 (dual core with XP) onto which I have also
installed Fedora Core 4 (smp).

According to Windows XP it has:
1. Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc (COM3)
I am fairly certain it is an HSF modem, a number of the modem driver files
in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers are also prefixed by hsf.
2. Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic. I haven't found a Linux driver
for this, so have installed the "dummy" driver. Then Linux happily "plays"
CDs, etc; and doesn't complain about no volume controls, etc.

I used the rpm to install the modem driver, i.e.
hsfmodem-7.43.00.01full_k2.6.11_1.1369_FC4smp-1fdr.i686.rpm
Always, except once, the machine frozen before the installation finished.
Usually, except twice, the machine would freeze on reboot (using the dual
core kernel), on the green "OK"s when it got to "audio", except two times.

In the three mentioned cases above, the machine happily dialled to the
internet and sent data in both directions, no apparent problems. The
diagnosis program is attached. I removed the driver by logging onto the
single core processor.

I subsequently installed the 16K stack kernel:
kernel-smp-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4.stk16.i686.rpm
and then tried installing the modem driver:
hsfmodem-7.43.00.01full_k2.6.11_1.1369_FC4.stk16smp-1fdr.i686.rpm
It bombed at roughly the same point as before.

I would be most grateful for any help.

Thanks
David
