prism54 + hostapd

hi list,

I would appreciate if somebody could give me a hint.

I have built an AP with 
SuSE-Linux 9,2
Kernel 2.6.8-24-default
wlan-card:
Network controller: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 [Prism GT
/Prism Duette] (rev 01)

Everything works fine with prism54 driver and firmware from SuSEdistri.

Now I need a radius. 
Is it correct, that I can only use the hostapd with the prism54.driver?

I have installed the development branch from 
http://hostap.epitest.fi/

in hostapd I did a make ( in the Makefile I have put
'CONFIG_DRIVER_PRISM54=y')
in hostapd.conf I put
driver=prism54

when I start 

hostapd  hostapd.conf

I get 
PRISM54 driver initialization failed.

Maybe I am on the wrong list, but it would be very nice if you could
give me a hint, 
where I have to put the prism54 driver . Or is it not working togenther?
Or do i have to install the hostap driver???
I online did a 'make' in the hostapd-directory.
