Which versions could compile CVS?

All,

Trying to compile different standalone versions with different kernels.
For all tried CVS version I've got differnt syntax errors with raw 2.6.9 and 
2.4.27/28 kernel versions with my GCC (custom 2.95 from Debian Woody).

Do I need any special patches or special version GCC ? For instance for 
2.4.24 and prism54-1.1 I've got missing netdevs-priv ref when modprobe. I 
could not find it in Configure.Help.
