D-Link Air Plus Extreme DWL-G650 A1 Freezes with ifconfig up

Hello,

I have a D-Link Air Plus Extreme DWL-G650 A1
card. I am using the prism54 driver supplied by
the 2.6.9 vanilla kernel.

If I try to bring up the card with ifconfig without
the firmware loaded, I get an error about the device
not being known.

If the firmware is loaded and I try to bring up the
card with ifconfig, it completely freezes the computer
and I am assuming it breaks the kernel.

I am using the latest firmware provided from the prism website.

Does anyone have any ideas?
