hi sudha,

right yesterday i have encountered the same phenomenon with a 2.6.10-kanotix-8 
kernel. in that case the kernel did not bother to upload the firmware to the 
card. so you might check against that first of all. (in SYSLOG).

the kernel needs firmware_class support and with older kernels (e.g. 2.4.19 -> 
BTW: until 2.4.24 (i think) there was a major root-exploit problem in the 
2.4kernel, so you should better upgrade to a latest kernel anyway) it needed 
to be compiled as a module (i am by myself astonished that the kanotix kernel 
is lacking the firmware_class.ko module and my prism54 still works. however, 
there must have been a change in firmware upload recently...)
