Key elements:

That might mean that it's a mini-PCI card with IRQ mapping that must be
set up by the OS.

First, what kernel version are you running?

OK, this is your problem.

What was the driver detection message?

Thanks for providing the correct info.

Try running this while the interface is "up" and check for interrupt
sources.  My guess is that you will see unhandled interrupts.
