Here are a couple of screenshots of this camera's output. The first is the sensor uncovered, and the second is the sensor covered so that no light enters it. As a further test, I modified the "camera type" that gspca is using to see if any of the other types produced a decent image, but they were all poor. (Tried JPEG right through to JPGV).
