One more possibility: running a frame-buffer videomode. Anything other 
than 80x25 is probably suspect. Fixable by giving the commandline 
parameter of 'vga=0' after the lilo prompt, or adding the same parameter 
to /etc/lilo.conf. Don't forget to run 'lilo' to activate the parameter.

Stumbled across it once with a Diamond videocard.
