The driver used to do the equivalent of 'mii-diag -R' upon loading, but this resets any link that might have been established until that point. This is particularly annoying with some Cisco switches that only activate the port 1 minute after the link was established. I suggested at that time to make the reset a module option defaulting to disabled (the present behaviour), but it didn't happen... It seems that not many people are missing it :-) > - Is this model (3C905CX-TXM) , garbage? So I should not rely on this > and use a different model. Well, I've had very good experience over years with 905B and 905C cards (notice 905C without X). I only have 4 905CX cards that are in use at the moment, so I can't do any testing. > - I am expect to use 'mii-tool -R' on boot and not to worry about the > card quality (which is good)? That's also an option :-) You could even do it more or less automatically in /etc/modules.conf with a "post-install" statement. -- Bogdan Costescu IWR - Interdisziplinaeres Zentrum fuer Wissenschaftliches Rechnen Universitaet Heidelberg, INF 368, D-69120 Heidelberg, GERMANY Telephone: +49 6221 54 8869, Telefax: +49 6221 54 8868 E-mail: [email protected] _______________________________________________ vortex mailing list [email protected] http://www.scyld.com/mailman/listinfo/vortex
