Please note that this is different from what the original poster asked. 
The initial question was about using 3c90x driver (from 3Com) while you 
are asking about different versions of 3c59x.

Not that I know of. I don't try to promote one version of 3c59x over the 
other, but I certainly try to encourage people to not use the 3c90x 
driver, simply because those on this list are not able to help much when 
there are problems with 3c90x. 3c90x is valuable as comparison because it 
has a pretty different design WRT 3c59x.
