Hi and thanks for a quick reply! Sadly, nobody bothered to reply aftewards... I assure you I won't give up until we all run out of ideas! ;) Back to the problem; I already tried increasing the debugging verbosity to 6, nothing out of the ordinary is reported in /var/log/messages, neither during boot-up nor afterwards. But it gets even weirder: my laptop is set to seek DHCP connection during its boot-up and if the crossover cable is connected to the desktop computer, media link is found and recognized as 100Mbit full duplex. Since dhcpd isn't running, nothing happens, but I guess that for this to happen, network cards have to talk to each other, right? I also checked /proc/interrupts, which are increasing as they should, /proc/dev/net seems ok as well. Everything is ok that I can tell, except for this glitch of not working at all! ;) I also tried 3c90x driver, but it returns Device not found error. For more information I'm attaching the output from logs & trials.
