None of the tools I have used have been useful in getting WOL to work on my machine. In the end, I added the following lines to my /etc/modprobe.conf (on a CentOS system): alias eth0 3c59x options eth0 enable_wol=1 And it worked, despite ethtool telling me otherwise. Older versions of the driver may not support ethtool, but getting the newer driver versions that work with it can rank from piece of cake to nearly impossible depending on your distro and your skills.
