Unable to change duplex settings with 3c595

I have an old pentium pro 200 that I have been messing around and I am 
having problems setting the duplex settings of card. I have tried using 
insmod option=0x204 and full_duplex=1 both seperately and together but 
to no avail. I tried downloading the dos utilities for the card and 
manually setting the eeprom to 100-tx and full duplex, but again, no 
dice. Nothing I seem to do matters as far as changing the duplex 
setting. I really don't know what else to try besides jumping into the 
code and with my programming experiance that could lead to disasterous 
results :) . Any help would be appreciated.

System specs are:
Linux kernel 2.4.18 release (no pactches)
Slackware 8.1
3Com 3c595 rev F
