Again, this is a sign that at least one end does not do autonegotiation. See my and Donald's answers in this thread: http://www.scyld.com/pipermail/vortex/2003-June/002449.html Might it be that the laptop card does not support autonegotiation ? > I'm not even certain how I would measure that. Windows drivers for these cards seem to ignore completely what is written in the EEPROM of the card. Using a recent version of vortex-diag or the DOS-based tool from 3Com, the EEPROM media defaults can be changed. However, I don't have personal experience with what choices there are for this type of card - in general autonegotiation/NWAY should be chosen. > PS. You did post with your first message vortex-diag output that says: MII PHY found at address 24, status 7829. which shows that it's there... -- Bogdan Costescu IWR - Interdisziplinaeres Zentrum fuer Wissenschaftliches Rechnen Universitaet Heidelberg, INF 368, D-69120 Heidelberg, GERMANY Telephone: +49 6221 54 8869, Telefax: +49 6221 54 8868 E-mail: [email protected] _______________________________________________ vortex mailing list [email protected] http://www.scyld.com/mailman/listinfo/vortex
