I think it's 9k, yes. A problem may be that the switch will not support
that. At least in my tests, setting the MTU to values beyond 1500 bytes
only worked with a crossover connection, but it may work with other
switches. Just in case ...
BTW, measurements showed that larger MTUs do not necessarily result in
better throughput. Although MTUs of 7k provided very good throughput, An
MTU of 3.5k was even worse than the standard MTU of 1500 bytes in our
measurements.
