You might have mentioned it. It would seem to me to be a very obvious
"abnormality". And the error messages from compilation would otherwise
cause one to have a heart attack on sight, just looking at them!

Do I look like I have an ia64 platform to experiment on?

Recently somebody at redhat corresponded with me on getting enbd
running on ia64, and we did it no problem at long range 
(for me - and not that I saw the results).  I believed I had
incorporated all his changes, but perhaps he left out some. There was
only one major correction required in the kernel module - the ids for
the kernel requests had to be explictly cut to 32 bits in comparisons
(kernel addresses were used as ids, but only 32 bits were sent over the net 
in the standard format, so the significant part of the ids was only 32bits).

One of the things you might do is persuade the config script to choose 
unsigned long long for u64. That would make me and it happier, but it's
cosmetic. However, remving the cosmetic blemishes would reveal any
deeper problems.
