Procedure for adding EVMS

I'm running OpenSuse 10.1 and did a new install.  I set up LVMs for each drive 
and then created the LVM volumes on them.  The system is up and running well 
now.  I want to start using EVMS but before I do something that hoses up the 
system I want to make sure I have it correct.  I have installed EVMS on 
Gentoo but it was a clean install from scratch.  For some strange reason 
SUSE/OpenSuse don't support it in the SLED 10 and OpenSuse 10.1 versions - 
although they did in the past.

1.  I have installed the evms and evms-gui parts.
2.  The kernel is built as explained on the EVMS documentation and is the one 
I'm running on now.
3.  The /etc/init.d script exists but is not run at boot - or any level.  I 
haven't turned it on.
4.  The /boot file system is ext2 and is built into the kernel as is the other 
that I use (XFS).
5.  I downloaded the evms initrd and put it in /boot.
6.  I created /initrd
7.  Grub has this entry for the evms entry

title EVMS Test (2.6.18.3)
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /2.6.18.3 root=/dev/evms/LVM_2/ROOT ramdisk=8192 splash=silent 
showopts
    initrd /evms-2.5.5-initrd.gz

Questions - 

1.  If I run evmsn it shows my volumes as /dev/evms/name and shows them 
active.  If I quit without saving they are not really active - correct?

2. Essentially how do I get EVMS activated and running without breaking my 
system.  I assume that if I I do the following I'll have a system that has 
EVMS running but the volumes will be compatibility volumes that I can convert 
later.

A.  Disable the /etcinit.d/boot.d/boot.lvm and /etc/init.d/boot.d/boot.md
B.  Enable /etc/init.d/boot.evms to start on the boot level - this runs 
evms_activate on start
C.  Change /etc/fstab to use evms names???
D.  Reboot and use the EVMS entry in grub.

3.  If I do this procedure can I boot back to my current setup?  I assume I'll 
need a live CD to boot with and add the boot.lvm and boot.md back while 
removing the boot.evms from the boot level.  After I run the LiveCD and fix 
it can I get back to this system without EVMS?

Am I on the right track or did I miss something.
