Power down disk - is it safe with RAID/EVMS?

I would like to power down my had disks to 1. reduce noise, 2. save power, 3. increase life. I would use 30-60 mins power down (so that they were not powering up/down regularly, but usually only if I'm out or asleep). Is it safe/OK to issue hdparm command with RAID and EVMS to power down the disks? I.e. no potential for data corruption. Will there be regular access that prevents the disk remaining powered down until the disk is accessed by a user? The disks in question are RAID 1 on Centos 4.4.
