Object Replace Help

Greetings,

 

I'm attempting to do some testing with EVMS on SLES 10 OES2 Beta.  We
currently use SAN storage for all of our user data hosted by NetWare.  In
the past when a volume had reached its capacity, we would simply find
available space on the SAN and allocate a larger segment.  For example, if
we filled up a 400GB segment, we would create a new 600GB segment on the SAN
and present it to the Netware box.  With NetWare, we use a third party
software package called PortLock to move our data over to the new segment.
We DO NOT use drive-linking to increase the size of the NSS pool due to
performance issues and manageability of the segments on the SAN.  Now that
we are moving to OES (Linux kernel), we need a way to move from device to
device, while preferably online.  After reading the EVMS manual and the
mailing list threads, using the Object-Replace functionality of EVMS might
be a way to accomplish this.

 

For testing purposes, I'm using local storage instead of SAN storage without
a RAID.  I created a 10GB segment on sdc1 and added it to a NSS Pool called
DATA1.  I then created a NSS Volume called Vol01 and attached it to DATA1
pool.  I ran evmsgui and created a 30GB segment on sdd1 and saved my changes
so the segment is now active.  According to the instructions I should be
able to click ACTIONS > REPLACE and select sdc1 as the segment to replace.
I instead get listings from sda and sdb only (i.e. sda1,sda2, sda3, etc.).

 

The only difference that I can see in evmsgui (under the Segments Tab) is
that sda and sdb are listed under DosSegMgr while sdc and sdd are listed
under NWSegMgr.  This to me shouldn't matter.

 

Any help would be appreciated.
